Reunion of early 70s' MSP teams planned

The hair has long gone but the spirit lives on!.. MSP teams coached by life member Paul 'Budgie' Jacobsen from 1971-73 are planning a reunion in 2013. Budgie and co-organiser Andrew 'Seagull' Cumming are keen to get in touch with past players, managers and coaches >>>


Pre-season begins on 8 January

What does it take to stay at the top of Wellington club rugby? A well-organised pre-season is a good start, and it gets underway on Tuesday 8 January when training begins at Evans Bay. The first serious contact rugby of the 2013 season will be an internal trial on 24 February >>>


NZ Marist southern juniors topple northern reps

Two MSP under-13s were in the NZ Marist southern team that recently toppled the northern primary schools. Assistant coach Ken Ah Kuoi says 'it was an excellent game that was fun to watch' >>>


Top goal kicker and top cricketer

Mark Houghton, who has been selected as a spinner in the Wellington cricket team, is the MSP Blues fullback and two-times winner of the club's trophy for top points' scorer >>>


Around the traps

New premier coaches Brendan Reidy and Ross Bond, who were appointed in October, look ahead to 2013... Nice to see MSP's 2012 Sportsman of the Year Lua Lokotui score a try for Tonga in their 21-15 victory over Scotland in November. Not so nice for Scotland coach Andy Robinson though, who resigned as a result of the loss... Congratulations to Steve Hinds who was awarded the Felix Kane Cup as St Pat's Town's Old Boy of the Year for 2012. 'Hindsy' was at St Pat's from 1969-73, and later went on to play over 100 premier games at lock for MSP and become a regular in a top Wellington provincial side in the late 70s and early 80s... Life member John Gordon explains how the club jersey and the club crest tell the story of the club's history...
