Top goal kicker in Wellington cricket team

It's always good to see MSP players shining in summer codes. Mark Houghton, fullback and goal kicker for the champion under-85 Blues and MSP's top points' scorer in 2007 and 2011, has again been selected in the Wellington cricket team.

Mark, a left-arm spinner, has been in the Wellington team for the past four seasons, but has had to bide his time behind international spinners Luke Woodcock and Jeetan Patel. Nevertheless, he's still managed 10 first-class games and 11 one-dayers for his province.

Mark also captains Taita's premier cricket side, third equal in the local club competition, which has three other Blues players in its ranks - Pat Houghton, David Houghton and Chris Tait.

There could be a link between cricket and goal kicking... batsman Stephen Murdoch, who captains Wellington, was the club's top points' scorer while an MSP colt in 2002 before he gave up rugby to concentrate on cricket.
