Strong second half not enough for Premier Men

Our Premier Men recorded their second loss of the season despite rallying from a half time deficit against Tawa at Lyndhurst Park.

After a first half plagued by uncharacteristic handling errors, our side found themselves on the backfoot battling a strong Tawa scrum. They trailed by 7-16 at half time.

After Tawa kicked another penalty, the injection of Isaia Petelo off the bench in the second half stirred some momentum for our visiting side. Soon after coming on he broke the line inside our own 22 and carried over half way before handing off to Aidan Morgan who beat the remaining defender to score under the post.

Three long range penalty kicks from the boot of James Proctor put the Red Machine in the lead by 23-19 with 10 minutes to play. The come-from-behind win was not to be, the side will regret opportunities they had to pin Tawa in their own half and instead they came back to score a try and a penalty on full time to seal the game at 23-27.

Earlier in the day our Premier Women had a loss at Petone by 21-31. Opening their second round competitions our Colts also fell to Petone, by 24-46, and our Premier 2 lost the early game to Tawa by 7-33. Our Under 85s had a tough match against in form Avalon, going down by 11-36.

It wasn't all doom and gloom however, the Internationals got back in the winners column taking down OBU '69ers' by 29-14 and the Presidents had a big win over Wainuiomata by 43-5. Our Netballers also got a win, by 27-20 over Vic Uni.

It's a big weekend coming up as we celebrate 50 years of Marist St Pats with events all weekend at the clubrooms. We would love to see you there!
