On a day when three Premier players brought up significant milestones for the club, the side put in a clinical first half performance to defeat Oriental Rongotai at Polo Ground.
Isaia Petelo led the team onto the field in his 150th Premier game and was closely followed by James Zino and Matt Peni who earned their blazers for their 50th game.
Our Premier Men continued to build on their trademark for the season: relentless waves of attack where the ball is kept alive rather than taking the tackle. This produced four tries in the opening 19 minutes to leave the sidelines of Polo Ground speechless. Aidan Morgan, Rez Tasele, Tui Tuiatua and Willie Schutz (2) were the first half try scorers with Red Machine taking a 33-7 lead into the half time break.
Ories refused to lie down and registered the first try of the second half at the 55 minute mark, but by that point it wasn't going to be enough. The Marist attack continued to threaten the line but only produced one more try to win the match by 40-14. They sit second on the Swindale Shield table.
Earlier, our Premier Women started their second round competition against Ories with a 7-48 loss; our Premier 2 Men's side also fell to Ories, by 7-50.
In a top of the table clash, our Colts played a thrilling match against OBU. After leading 19-12 at the break, mistakes proved costly in the second half with the final score a loss by 26-29. This is a very exciting team who will have learned a lot from their first round of Colts rugby. Their second round competition kicks off next week.
Our Under 85's earned their second win in a row, taking down HOBM by 39-7; the Internationals had another close loss, to Upper Hutt by 12-19. The Presidents rounded out the rugby action with a 33-0 win over Wainuiomata after last week's bye.
On the Netball front, our side got back in the winners circle with a 32-24 win over Vic Uni 8.
The clubrooms were bouncing on Saturday night with presentations made to the three players who made milestones this weekend along with James Proctor and Emelemoa Makisi who earned their blazers last weekend.
