Premiers in pole position on Swindale Shield table

Our Premiers have dispatched Paremata-Plimmerton by 75-0 on a sunny day at Evans Bay Park. But the most interesting results came from other grounds in Wellington.

Hutt Old Boys Marist beat Old Boys-University in the final minute to knock them off top position while Tawa held on by the skin of their teeth to beat Petone. That leaves Marist St Pats one point clear of Northern United with two rounds to play.

The result at Evans Bay Park was beyond doubt within 15 minutes, running in four early tries including one to prop Meinrad Fitisemanu in the opening minute. Isaia Petelo and Andrew Wells scored first half doubles and the team led 51-0 at the break.

The Paremata-Plimmerton coach took his team back into the changing sheds at half time and whatever he said made a big difference. His team came out with much more enthusiasm and structure in the second half and it was only a few late tries that extended the lead for the home side. Andrew Wells picked up a hatrick in the second half.

So with two rounds to play, destiny is in our own hands as the Premiers travel to Johnsonville next week before hosting the Axemen in the final round.

In other results, our previously unbeaten Netballers fell by three points in their final against an experienced side. The club is very proud of their efforts in their inaugural season.

The Premier Reserves won by default to Pare-Plim; the Under 85s beat HOBM in the early game played on Evans Bay. The Internationals had a tight loss to old rivals Poneke.
