There were mixed emotions at Evans Bay on Saturday afternoon following resounding wins to the Premier Reserves and Colts to stay unbeaten in their respective competitions - but with the Premiers slipping up to Avalon.
The Colts have now won five from five, taking down last years grade winners Petone by a good margin on the turf. The Premier Reserves dispatched with their Avalon counterparts by a cricket score.
But the result that had everyone talking was the Premiers loss to 11th placed Avalon. The side never managed to get any momentum plagued by a lopsided penalty count and far too many handling errors. Avalon played to their strengths up front and took advantage of every opportunity afforded to them for a deserved win.
The loss leaves the side still requiring at least one more win to secure Jubilee Cup qualification with three rounds still to play.
In the day's opener our Premier Women got back in the winners circle with a strong win over Avalon at Fraser Park as they head into their bye week.
