Rest in Peace Stephen (Steve) Hinds  

The Marist St Pats family is saddened to share news of the passing of Steve Hinds. We offer the Clubs sincerest condolences to the extended Hinds family  

Marist St Pats was fortunate to have the support and presence of Steve over many years. As a player, Steve was a standout Premier lock forward contributing to MSP winning four Swindale Shield’s and three Jubilee Cup trophies when the ‘Red Machine’ remained unbeaten for 42 consecutive club matches in the 1970’s to early 1980’s period. Steve played over 100 Premier grade matches and played for the Wellington Lions from 1978 to 1983. 

Steve, was awarded the Club’s Trophy for his Outstanding Contribution and Unobtrusive Service in 1983. 

St Patrick’s College also recognised Steve’s contribution to the Community when Steve was awarded the College Old Boy of the Year Award in 2012. 

Steve had a distinguished career with NZ Police and served three terms as President of the Police Association from 1989 to 1995. He was granted life membership in 2010. 

Internationally, Steve’s contribution to Rugby Union continued becoming World Rugby’s Citing Commissioner Manager in 2017 where he was “looking forward to managing and developing a worldwide team of citing commissioners that further enhances the ability to deliver appropriate and consistent citing decisions  

Steve’s Funeral details will be made available at a later date. 

We trust that the knowledge that the extended Hinds family  are in the thoughts and prayers of so many Marist St Pat’s players and supporters will be of comfort at this time.
