On a very wet Wellington day our Premier Men returned the Horan-Millar Trophy from Poneke, while our Premier Women retained the Challenge Cup.
Our Premier Women kicked off the day per usual and hosted Petone, the only side that beat them in round one. However the opening match of round two saw a reversal of fortunes with our side jumping out to a 14-0 lead. They continued to extend this in the second half before a flurry of late Petone tries narrowed the final score to 24-19. The side retained the Challenge Cup (played for like the Ranfurly Shield) and hold a seven game winning streak.
After some respite, the rain set back in for the Swindale Shield match. Poneke crossed the road with intent to hold onto the Horan-Millar Trophy that they finally got their hands on last year. In a first half arm-wrestle they took the lead into half time 12-13. The Red Machine got down to business in the second half and methodically built a lead; they kept the Street Kids scoreless in the second, coming away with a 29-13 victory.
Earlier on Evans Bay our Premier Reserves couldn't get the rub of the green in tough conditions; despite enjoying numerous positive phases they lost 0-20. Over the harbour, our Colts faced unbeaten Petone and led during the game before falling 12-16.
The Internationals got back in the winners circle with a 20-12 win over Upper Hutt Rams; the Under 85s lost to HOBM by 5-48 and the Presidents went down by 5-24 to HOBM.
Both Netball teams were unbeaten again with the first side beating QMC 2 by 46-20 and the second side beating Wellington East 13 by 32-19.
