In 2022, Marist St Pats has worked closely with St Patrick's College to strengthen our historical connections and contribute to the development of students. We've also established a strong connection with Sacred Heart College Rugby in Auckland with growing ties between the College and our club.
Throughout the season Marist St Pats has had the privilege of hosting the St Patrick's College 1st XV and their families for team events. Ahead of their famous traditional victory over Silverstream, the team assembled at Marist St Pats to present jersey's for the match. We were also fortunate to host the team the week following their Final as the team came together to celebrate their season.
Marist St Pats has also sponsored the Under 15 team at St Pat's for their trip to the National tournament in Christchurch.
Before the end of the school term, we will host a Careers event at the College to connect school leavers with relationships the club holds with Raranga.
Raranga is a partnership between Ngāti Toa and long time club supporters LT McGuinness with a purpose to grow and develop skilled workers and future leaders of Aotearoa’s construction industry.
Through the generosity of the Robbers family, we are pleased to announce the Mick Robbers Memorial Scholarship. Applications for the annual scholarship will be open to St Patrick's College school leavers who wish to continue their rugby at Marist St Pats.
The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellent school values and contribution to St Patrick’s College. The student will receive a financial contribution to put towards their future education or development.
This is a great way to honour the late Mick Robbers, a club legend who was our first Premier captain and later Club President. Mick held strong ties to both the club and St Patrick's College.
Sacred Heart College is another proud school with strong Marist connections. In recent years we have had a number of players join us as they make the move from Auckland. Players have connected with the club and our members with shared values and made an immediate contribution on and off the field.
On Wednesday 31 August, we had the pleasure of hosting Sacred Heart College players and their families while they were in Wellington for the College Under 85kg Tournament
Along with President John Holden and Colts Manager Lourdaiz Ah Chong, a number of MSP Colts and Premier players spoke to the touring party and made connections on how we can welcome students relocating to Wellington in the future.
Thank you to Lourdaiz for his efforts in establishing and building these connections - and congratulations to the SHC team for winning the tournament!
