Dear
A Jubilee Cup win on 12 August crowned an outstanding year of rugby for MSP. Congratulations to coaches Clayton and Murray, captains Arden and Kas, and the whole team and support crew. In case you've missed them, the video highlights of the Jubilee Cup win make great viewing.
Well done also the under-85 Blues, champions for the third year in a row, and the grade-winning Reserve Internationals. MSP fields 10 teams, with nine that play for competition points plus a social Presidents' side. All nine teams made the play-offs of their grades, a remarkable achievement.
While the club season is all but over with just two games this weekend, there's still plenty on at MSP....
Jeff To'omaga Allen is MSP's sole starting player in the Wellington team that will take on Manawatu in the ITM Cup tomorrow. Arden David-Perrot and Lua Lokotui are on the bench, while Solomona Sakalia is also in the squad. Fa'atonu Fili, Liu Taituave and Peter Sciascia have been named in the Wellington Development team. In the Wellington under-20s, Donald Brighouse, Andrew Wells, Aviata Silago, Sam Sturgiss and Andrew Ellis have been named in a 29-strong squad, while Jacob Taituave has a trial for the Wellington under-18s. Best wishes to all those players.
Flush with their Jubilee Cup success, Bernie Upton and Kas Lealamanua, who work at Konica Minolta along with Norm Broughton, have a special deal to benefit the club and its members >>>
There's plenty to celebrate at MSP's equivalent of the Oscars, the annual prizegiving, on Thursday 30 August at the clubrooms >>>
Martin Snedden, chief executive of the 2012 Rugby World Cup, and elite athlete Melissa Moon are the guest speakers at this year's Shamrock Club Test Dinner at the clubrooms on Friday 7 September. All club members are invited to the Boatshed the following day when the All Blacks play Argentina >>>
Join current and former All Blacks including Christian Cullen, Ma'a Nonu, Julian Savea and Victor Vito at MSP's clubrooms on Saturday 1 September to launch Wellington Samoan rugby's rep season >>>
The clubrooms are open this Saturday 25 August... If you're looking for a carpark for the All Blacks test at the Stadium on 8 September, book one at Sacred Heart School in Thorndon... All players can come along to sevens training now on at Evans Bay every Monday and Wednesday... The Shamrock Club's golf tournament on 20 September at Miramar is open to all club members. It's played under Ambrose Rules to spare any embarrassment for non-golfers. Last year saw great weather and a great day.
