Two Marist St Pats players have been recognised in the annual Wellington Rugby Awards with Keelan Whitman picking up Wellington Lions 'Rookie of the Year' and Valini Vaka winning 'Women's Club Rugby Rookie of the Year'. The usual awards event was cancelled due to Covid-19.
Keelan added to his Marist St Pats 'Sportsman of the Year' award after an outstanding debut season with the Lions which followed a real 'coming of age' in the Wellington Club competition. He was handed the starting No. 8 spot with the Lions from the start of the NPC season and made a total of 7 appearances.
Valini was an outstanding addition to our Premier Women's team in her first season out of St Mary's College. She was a member of the Wellington Pride NPC squad where she made her representative debut. The quality of young talented players in Wellington Women's Rugby indicates the talent Valini possesses to be recognised as the Club Rugby Rookie of the Year.
