Horan-Millar Trophy is staying in Hataitai
Our Premier Men have beaten Poneke by 45-8 to retain the Horan-Millar Trophy as the two sides celebrated 100 years of Marist vs Poneke rugby.
After a sluggish start that saw the sides tied at 3-3 after 20 minutes, James Tuiatua kicked things into gear at the 32 minute mark as he scored the first of what would be four tries for the co-captain. Isaia Petelo struck again on half time to give the home side an 18-3 lead at the break.
James got his second try at the 50 minute mark before Poneke got their only try of the day by way of an intercept to keep the Street Kids' hopes alive at 23-8. Those hopes were extinguished five minutes later when James scored a third and then a fourth not long later. Ofa Siale and Ben Tuiatua scored two more to extend the final score to 45-8 - a score that could have been inflated given a number of missed conversions.
Our Premier Men sit alone at the top of the Swindale Shield table after four rounds but visit the only other unbeaten team, Old Boys-University, this weekend at Wellington College.
Earlier, our Premier Women had a tough game and a heavy defeat to Oriental-Rongotai; our Premier 2 Men lost to Poneke by 15-22.
The Colts continued their winning start to the season with a gutsy 14-10 win over Petone at Kilbirnie Park, recovering from a 3-10 deficit.
The Internationals are also unbeaten in competition play after beating the OBU 'Teddy Bears' by 33-24.
The Under 85s lost to Johnsonville by 7-64 and Presidents fell to Petone by 14-28.
