The Marist St Pats family farewelled Barrie Smith at a Requiem Mass at St Patrick's Church, Kilbirnie this morning, Tuesday 30 November. Covid-19 Level 2 restrictions applied and the Club is aware that many would, otherwise, have attended this farewell for a much loved Life Member who was a gracious, kind and generous man.
Barrie made a huge contribution to Marist St Pats in many roles – on the Club Management Committee, Ground Manager and Statistician Extraordinaire – for those who may have seen Barrie’s record keeping of statistics it was exemplary, both in terms of its accuracy and its presentation, and these statistics were often sought after by administrators and players.
Some of the references in Marist St Pats' 50th history “C’mon Red” recalled:
Barrie cared about the players… but we thank him for everything he contributed to the lives of so many in the Marist St Pats family. Well done good and faithful servant. Rest in Peace.
