After lockdown delayed our planned Senior Prizegiving in September, our community was able to come back together on Saturday to acknowledge the contributions of players and administrators over the 2021 season. Club Captain Mike Renouf organised a relaxed event where we could enjoy the afternoon sun at the clubrooms over a BBQ.
In the notable awards, Keelan Whitman won the Paul Donaghue Trophy as Sportsperson of the Year on the back of an outstanding Premier season where he anchored a strong forward pack and was rewarded with debut selection for the Wellington Lions. Keelan was unable to accept the award in person as he was starting for the Lions in Palmerston North a few hours later!
The W.M. O'Connor Memorial Trophy for the Most Outstanding Club Member was awarded to club stalwart Poto Masina. Poto works tirelessly behind the scenes, picking up many jobs that help the club run smoothly. It was great to be able to recognise one of our unsung heroes.
The coveted Mick Horan Memorial Trophy was awarded to Premier outside back Willie Schutz. A courageous player who consistently contributes 100% to the team and plays well above his weight.
The Father Geoff Broad Memorial Trophy for Team of the Year was awarded to the Colts. After a year's hiatus due to Covid, the reformed Colts side were a shot in the arm for the club with a great team spirit and group of players who have embraced the club. They were semi-finalists in 2021 and with the core of the team returning to the Colts grade next year, they will be exciting to watch!
Congratulations to all our Club Trophy winners and Team MVPs and thank you to all who have contributed to Marist St Pats in 2021 - we look forward to seeing you all again in 2022!
