One of the great Marist St Pats traditions for the Jubilee Cup Final is the assembly of the 'Vatican Army', our passionate supporters who cheer on our team.
Each final has a 'Pope' elected to lead the supporters group, the Pope for 2021 will be Under 85s stalwart and all-round club legend Malcom Mashingaidze. We caught up with Malcolm as he prepares for the weekend:
'It's a huge honour to lead out the biggest, most dedicated red army ever assembled this weekend. Personally I've always wanted to be a part of it; Marist St Pats has been my sanctuary over the last 12 years, nurturing me through the joys and challenges of life.
No more needs to be said about the scrutiny and character defamation our club has faced this year, however we will show this weekend that we're not only more united, we are unbreakable and we will never fold!
This year's army will be like no other, extra emphasis has been placed on showcasing our club's inclusion and diversity. The Vatican Army will march loudly on Hutt Rec this Saturday boasting members of our Netball, Premier Women, Colts, Premier 2, Under 85's and a tonne of screaming members from our junior club. Man, I love my club!'
