Marist St Pats legend, John Spillane, was awarded Life Membership at Marist St Pats during our 51st Annual General Meeting. John was nominated by Henry Fidow and Sean Horan.
In Henry's nomination to the AGM, he detailed John's long history at Marist St Pats and the various roles he has undertaken starting with his playing day's for the J6's and the Presidents. John then took on numerous management and administrative roles including Team Manager, Colts Coach, Chair of the House Committee, Chair of the Management Committee, Club Secretary and most recently Chair of the 50th Jubilee Organising Committee.
Along with the many roles he has contributed to, John is a great human being. As Henry summed up:
'Clubs are about looking out for each other, putting others before yourself, encouraging others to make the right choices, challenging each other to be better, and taking some time to help each other out.
No one is better at living these values than John. He has always got time to give you a hand, good at talking things through, giving guidance, has given players jobs, arranged fundraisers, attended working bees, when coaching- drove players to games, taxied players between grounds to back up other teams, sat at A & E with injured players, made emergency trips to Youth Hostels'.
Congratulations John and thank you for a lifetime of service to our club. John joins his sister MaryAnn as the only brother/sister duo to be awarded Life Membership at Marist St Pats.
