Our Premiers and Premier Reserves both recorded bonus point wins over our neighbours Oriental-Rongotai this afternoon.
After a disappointing one-point loss last week, our Premiers were eager to get back to winning ways and showed that with intent in the first half. After conceding an early penalty it was largely one-way traffic for the rest of the half.
James Tuia and Willie Schutz both scored two tries in the half, including a spectacular effort from Schutz to recover a crossfield kick from James Proctor to bring up the bonus point.
The second half wasn't as free flowing as the first half with the Red Machine finding themselves on the wrong side of the penalty count - including two yellow cards. Despite being undermanned, the defensive effort was resolute and Ories couldn't penetrate the red line of defense. It wasn't until about the 70th minute that MSP would regain some sustained territory and possession but they capitalised on that to score twice in the final ten minutes. Jeremiah Tuiatua scored his first Premier try and James Tuiatua earned himself a hatrick.
Earlier, the Premier Reserves continued their strong form with a 56-22 over their Ories counterparts. With a number of bye's, only two other teams were in action today with the Presidents and Under 85s recording losses.
Join us next week for Old Timers Day when our Premiers host Old Boys-University at Evans Bay Park - all grades will play locally.
