New Wellington Lions coach Leo Crowley has named four Marist St Pats players in his 36-strong Mitre10 Cup squad, including Aidan Morgan and Tyrone Thompson who will join the squad for the first time. They will be joined by our Super Rugby players, Naitoa Ah Kuoi and Billy Proctor.
It is a great achievement for the two youngsters who have been standouts in the Marist St Pats Premier side, performing like seasoned veterans through the Swindale Shield.
Meanwhile, Naitoa and Billy will look to play a large role in the Lions campaign. At the age of just 21, Billy will be entering his fourth Mitre10 Cup campaign and has enjoyed regular game time with the Hurricanes.
In his first season of Super Rugby, with the Chiefs, Naitoa soon earned a regular starting spot in Warren Gatland's side - experience that will no doubt see him with a larger role to play in the Lions.
All four players are in action for our Premiers this weekend against Paremata-Plimmerton, before the squad assembles for a short preseason. The Lions kick off their Mitre10 Cup campaign against Waikato in Hamilton on 12 September.
