With a team of five million working together, New Zealand appears to have a strong lead entering the second half. With the country moving into 'Alert Level 2', this is the latest update on what this means for Marist St Pats.
As always, follow us on Facebook to get the latest updates as they are available.
New Zealand Rugby has developed Return to Rugby Requirements and other resources to ensure our communities are safe and the transition back into rugby is as smooth as possible.
Currently New Zealand is at COVID-19 Alert Level 2 and all community and club rugby will begin to follow the three stages of preparation outlined below.
Phase 1 Prepare to Train From 14 May
Rugby clubs work with their Provincial Unions to put procedures in place to ensure all necessary requirements can be met. These include hygiene protocols for people, venues and facilities, requirements for gatherings and contact tracing. No organised rugby training or match activity will occur during this phase.
Phase 2 Prepare to Play (dates to be confirmed, subject to Government advice)
Teams begin pre-season training (including contact training) within NZR's guidelines and recommendations. This is expected to be a four-week period from 25 May but will be confirmed following confirmation of the government's requirements for gatherings. Pre-season matches may be played in the final week prior to Phase 3.
NZR recommends Sporty's iDMe online contract tracing system.
Phase 3 Play (dates to be confirmed, subject to Government advice)
If restrictions on mass gatherings are increased from 25 May, competition fixtures can begin from 20 June.
Following NZ Rugby's 'Return to Rugby' requirements, the earliest we can expect club rugby to start in Wellington is 20 June.
Wellington Rugby is working with club delegates to determine what a competition would look like, but it's probably fair to say this will be a reduced schedule. We will provide updates as they are announced.
The club is currently arranging thorough professional cleaning of the gym and clubrooms. The gym will be cleaned this week.
Once we return to structured training, there will be mandatory contact tracing and hygiene requirements. Players will be briefed on these before training starts.
Coaches and Managers will contact players to confirm their training times once we enter 'Phase 2'.
We're currently working through how we implement the processes required to keep our club members safe. At this stage there is no plan to open the clubrooms until the season starts, although we may open the week prior to test all the new processes.
Licensing regulations require patrons to be Club Members in order to enjoy the facilities; members can sign in one guest. To make this process easier, please join Marist St Pats as a financial member (details below).
As earlier communicated, the planned celebrations over Queens Birthday have been postponed until 2021. We are still working on what this will look like and when the celebrations will occur.
We will share this information on our website and social media when it is available.
There are many tasks to complete to get the season back up and running with only a small number of volunteers managing the load. If you can volunteer your time, please contact us and would gratefully find something for you to help with.
Financially, Marist St Pats relies on sponsorship, grant funding and members subscriptions in order to provide our community with the facilities to train, play and congregate as a club.
With grant funding heavily reduced, this has impacted a key source of funding for the club. Many of our seasons expenses come at the start of the year including preseason training, new gear and maintenance.
If you are in a position to support Marist St Pats as a financial member or with a donation, this will help ensure we can provide the same facilities and support to our community in years to come.
