Our Premier Reserves have gone back to back as the Harper Lock Shield champions with a dominant win over second placed Northern United securing the silverware with a week to spare. The team now hasn't lost a Harper Lock Shield match since 2017.
The side play's as a cohesive unit and had the game well in hand by midway through the second half when your reporter arrived at the ground. You can watch the trophy presentation below.
On a sunny Old Timers Day our Premiers roared into life against their Northern United counterparts who were also second on the table. An outstanding first half performance saw them score four tries and take a 31-0 lead into the break.
It was a classic performance where the forwards were clinical at the breakdown setting a strong platform for our classy backs to do their part. Powerful winger Rez Tasele scored two of his own and was joined in the try scorers column by James Proctor and Willie Schutz in the first half.
Isaia Petelo scored early in the second to extend the lead to 38-0. With Hurricanes first five Jackson Garden-Bachop coming off the bench for the visitors, they stirred into action and scored four second half tries of their own. By that time it was two little too late.
This win keeps our Jubilee Cup hopes alive, but the team will need a win against Oriental-Rongotai next week and results to go their way. We look forward to your support!
