Unbeaten against Petone on Saturday

Our top three men's teams were unbeaten in their respective matches with Petone on Saturday at Evans Bay.

After slipping on a banana skin last week, the Premiers put in their most complete performance of the season in a hard fought draw. They will retain the Bill Elvy Memorial Trophy as the holders from last season.

After conceding a try in the first five minutes, Petone barely entered our 22 again in the first half. Despite controlling much of the possession and territory we just couldn't break the defense. A penalty to Willie Schutz saw us trail 3-7 at half time.

The second half was a much more open affair. We scored three great team tries, with winger Rez Tasele bagging two of his own. With one minute to play Petone attempted a 53 metre penalty straight in front but it fell just short and wide.

In his first Premier game of the season following an injury, Naitoa Ah Kuoi was prominent in all aspects of the game. Livewire flanker Tasipale Valavala was also influential off the bench, making several breaks including one leading to a try (video below).

In the early game on Evans Bay Park our Premier Reserves won their 19th Harper Lock Shield game in a row, with a 45-21 win over Petone.

The Colts stayed unbeaten this season after two games with a 36-17 win on the artificial turf.

Our Premier Women played on Friday night in the driving rain on the turf, they earned their first win of the season in style, 53-0 over Wainuiomata. Centre Paige Va'auli scored five tries!
