Napier Boys High School standouts Leo and Tyrone Thompson will play their rugby at Marist St Pats. The talented twins have been contracted by the Wellington Academy and were eager to play at MSP given their strong Marist rugby roots.
The pair were key players for Napier Boys High in a very successful 2018 season that saw them Hurricanes Schools champions, Moascar Cup winners and National runners up. Tyrone captained the side as a hooker while Leo plays in the midfield.
Between them they have featured in numerous Hurricanes and Hawkes Bay age-grade representative teams, Tyrone was also selected for the New Zealand Secondary Schools side.
Coming to play at Marist St Pats was an easy decision given Leo and Tyrone played all their junior rugby at Napier Old Boys Marist and they have strong family ties to MSP. Their father, uncle and cousins have all played in red so they are familiar with the club's rich history.
When asked about their on field goals, the soon to be apprentice builders just want to get stuck in. They want to make an impact at club level while continuing to develop their game as they strive for higher honours.
Director of Rugby Zak Feaunati is really looking forward to seeing the twins in action at Marist St Pats. 'They have come from a very good rugby school in Napier Boys, but the most impressive thing about the two boys is not only are they quality rugby players but good men. They will fit in very well with the MSP way and it won't take long for both to stamp their mark on Wellington's club rugby scene.'
