Our Premiers and Premier Reserves are leaving the Polo Ground licking their wounds after close losses to Oriental Rongotai.
In the Jubilee Cup opener our side jumped out to a 17-3 lead following a clinical opening 25 minutes that saw them score three tries. But in the ten minutes before half time the home side scored two tries against the run of play to draw level at 17-all.
The second half was a seesaw affair. Our side controlled long passages of play but kept coming up with nothing. Another two tries to Ories saw them take a 17-29 lead with ten minutes to play. We went back down and scored to narrow the margin to 22-29 and had chances to tie the game in the final minutes before dropping the ball over the line in the final play of the game.
Despite the disappointing loss, we've picked up two valuable bonus points.
Earlier the Premier Reserves also missed a chance to snatch victory on full time, losing their first game of the season after winning 13 in a row.
Our Premier Women completed their final match of the first round with a 69-5 demolition on Poneke on the artificial turf.
