Our Premiers fell 29-35 to Tawa with a second half surge not quite enough, but earned two bonus points from the game. In the early game our Premier Reserves beat Tawa 13-7.
In the Swindale Shield opener our Premiers got out to a strong start, controlling possession and territory for the first 10 minutes and opening the scoring through a try to James Tuia (video below). But Tawa were quick to punish mistakes, scoring three quick tries off turnovers to lead 5-28 at the break for oranges.
The Red Machine roared back to life in the second half with tries to Andrew Wells, Kerrod Foaese and Ryan Saunders (2), but it wasn't enough to claw back the deficit.
The side will look to get their first win of the season when they host Wellington at Evans Bay Park this Saturday.
