Matt Peni scores four tries in a day of big wins

Our top sides recorded bonus point victories as the Swindale Shield and Harper Lock Shield competitions reach their conclusions.

The Premiers made their first trip to Ngati Toa Domain in recent memory to take on Paremata-Plimmerton. Despite standout wing Mike Buckley scoring in the first three minutes, the home side put in a gutsy first half performance as we took a 22-13 lead into the second half facing a stiff southerly.

The half time team talk sparked some more life into the team for the second half and the tries started flowing. James Tuia and Mike Buckley scored two on the day - the latter an outstanding one-on-one strip from Buckley who then ran about 60 metres to the try line.

The strongest performance of the second half came from big No. 8 Matt Peni who rampaged when given any space. He scored three tries in the second half alone and was very hard to contain with ball in hand (video below).

With this result our Premiers secure their spot in the Jubilee Cup which kicks off in two weeks time.

Earlier, the Premier Reserves had a big win of their own. Buoyed by the return of players from injury in recent weeks they found space to run the ball with ease - unconfirmed reports are that Corey Lawrence scored three tries in this match.

On a day in which some big wins were recorded, it was our Women's team who set the scene. Coming off the bye week they had a bonus point victory over Old Boys-University and improved their season record to 5-1.

Their competition takes a break for Queens Birthday and will face Oriental Rongotai and Wainuiomata in the final rounds.
