Premiers hold on against Ories
Our Premier have earned a second successive two point victory in the Jubilee Cup, this time with a late Andrew Wells penalty to get back in front.
The Red Machine had led the whole game until the 72nd minute when Oriental Rongotai went ahead with a try under the posts. By in large our side had the stronger game, with advantages in territory and possession, but unfortunately some soft defense kept the Magpies in the game with a number of long range try.
Other than the game winning kick, the play of the game arguably came in the 64th minute with Nick Harrison stealing an Ories lineout on their five metre line and then helping to push Valentine Meachen over the line in the ensuing play for a crucial try. This capped off another outstanding performance from the veteran lock.
Earlier our Premier Reserves put on an outstanding second half performance to score about 50 points in 25 minutes to sink any hopes of an Ories comeback. Over on the artificial turf the Colts fought back from an early deficit but couldn't hold on to the end.
Our Women had another strong performance taking down Wainuiomata on their home ground - an impressive result given Wainui has been strong in this competition in recent years.
In the suburbs, the Internationals beat OBU 'Righteous Brothers' 36-24 to record their fifth consecutive win and currently sit equal on top of their grade.
