It is with a heavy heart that the Marist St Pats family acknowledge the death of Dr Leo Buchanan, a well-known Wellington paediatrician.
Leo was also an active and passionate long-time Member of the Marist St Pats RFC.
His passionate interest in the Club began after he completed his College years, at Sacred Heart College in Auckland. Leo was a very proud 'Marist' man that was formed by his father, Mr Frank Buchanan, a Marist St Pats Life Member.
Leo was a consummate Club man; a regular attender at matches and at the Clubrooms afterwards. Leo would be a regular at 'Old Timers Day' and was an active supporter of special events at the Club. Leo had an active faith and was very supportive of the role of the Club Chaplain (Fr Barry Scannell SM) and the Club Patron who has customarily been the Archbishop of the time, currently Cardinal John Dew.
Marist St Pats rugby will not be the same without the quiet presence of Dr Leo on the sidelines.
A Rosary vigil will be said at St Mary of the Angels, Wellington, at 7pm on Thursday 12 October and Leo’s funeral Mass is also at St Mary of the Angels at 11.00am on Friday 13 October.
To Leo’s wife, Mary, and his family the Marist St Pats family extends its deepest sympathy.
