Murray Tocker was given the honour of Life Membership of Marist St Pats at the 43rd Annual General Meeting. His nomination as written by Peter Woods:
'Murray Tocker first played for MSP in 1978. His first game for the club was at Senior 1st level - today's Premier team. He was a regular first choice player until he retired in 1988.
Murray was a member of arguably the clubs best team of the late 1970s that went unbeaten for 42 matches. He played in all 42 matches and still maintains he scored against Petone in the game that broke the winning sequence but the referee was unsighted.
Murray was a member of five Jubilee Cup winning teams. In all he played 168 Premier games - third overall and most by a back. Incidentally Murray's son JP is currently the second most capped back.
After his playing career finished, Murray maintained his association with the club in a coaching capacity. With the exception of a short time in Tauranga and two years coaching in Japan, Murray has either coached a team or assisted other coaches.
Murray has coached three winning Juibllee Cup teams, in 2008 and 2009 with Kevin Horan and in 2011 with Clayton McMillan. He was also MSP's CCO for two years in 2004-05.
35 years after his arrival at MSP Murray is still heavily involved and is going to coach the Senior 1st team with Bernie Upton next year.
Mr Chairman, I would like to nominate Murray Paul Tocker for Life Membership'.
Needless to say, this nomination was unanimously accepted and the club congratulates Murray on this very deserved honour!
