The club faithful enjoyed a great night celebrating another year in the proud history of Marist St Pats last Friday night.
2013 Premier captain and longtime halfback Peter Sciascia (right) was named Sportsman of the Year recognising his strong performances in leading a young Premier side from the front. He was also named team MVP for the Premier side.
Isaac O'Connor was awarded the coveted Mick Horan Memorial Trophy after a season in which he started every Premier game and was noted by many as one of the best loose forwards in the competition.
The champion Under 85kg Blues added to their ever-growing collection of silverware winning the William Te Oka Shield, for earning the most competition points. Blues centre Jared Hammington took home the Mons. Heavey Cup for the most tries and fullback Mark Houghton recieved the St Pats College Old Boys Cup for kicking the most points (the third time he has won this!)
In recognising the administrators and supporters who continue to keep Marist St Pats at the forefront of Wellington club rugby, Michael Sood was named the Outstanding Club Member and awarded the W.M. O'Connor Memorial Cup for his immense contributions to the club. 'Soody' serves as an Assistant Manager to the Premiers and is often found around the clubrooms and the gym making sure all is in order.
One of the many memorable moments of the night was seeing Paul 'Budgie' Jacobsen awarded the Special Merit Award which left him speechless, something many claimed to have never witnessed! Budgie has contributed much to the club over the years with coaching, administration and sponsorship; his support over the last couple of seasons through the now famous 'Beat the Budgie' draws has been invaluable.
The club extends its thanks to MC Ken Laban who added great humour along with his knowledge of the local club scene for a memorable night.
