Fr Brian O'Connell new MSP chaplain
Father Brian O'Connell SM is the club's new chaplain, a role he's taken on largely out of respect for his old friend and former MSP chaplain, the late Fr Geoff Broad.
'I enjoy watching games and was a great mate of Geoff's,' Fr Brian says. 'I want to honour his memory in a small way.'
Fr Brian is pictured left in the photo at Evans Bay where he often used to accompany Fr Geoff to MSP's games. Fr Brian is originally from Christchurch where he was a keen Marist junior rugby player. He went to St Bedes but his playing days were cut short by a broken leg when he was 16.
Today Fr Brian edits the Marist Messenger for the Society of Mary. He was at the Hutt Old Boys Marist game last weekend but unfortunately will be away for Past Players and Supporters' Day this Saturday. We look forward to seeing him on the sidelines and welcome his future involvement with the club.
