The 2011 season ended with some promising signs and Marist St Pats is looking forward to a strong 2012, says chairman Ruffy Mollo.
'We've had excellent numbers along to pre-Christmas trainings and we'll be looking to continue that momentum into next year when training resumes,' he says.
Key coaching appointments have been made, including Clayton McMillan and Murray Tocker as premier coaches, and the club did well at the Rugby Union's Tui Awards in November. MSP won six of the 18 trophies on offer, including the award for the highest number of championship points per team.
'That reflects the fact that eight of our 11 teams made their grade finals. While it was disappointing not be in the Jubilee Cup finals, it does show we have good depth across the grades,' Ruffy says.
The AGM saw several new administrators elected, including Terry Manion as president, and new board members Bill Harrison, Charlie Graham (senior), and John Spillane.
A major issue to address in the coming months is the club's financial situation, he says. The club ran at a loss during 2011 and that cannot continue.
'I'd like to thank all the players, coaches, managers and all the other volunteers this year,' Ruffy says. 'On behalf of Marist St Pat's, I wish all members and supporters a happy Christmas and a safe and enjoyable New Year, and I look forward to seeing you next season.'
