Annual Report highlights

Around 1000 players used MSP's gym and training grounds every week during the past season, says club coaching coordinator John Duignan. That estimate includes senior and junior club members  plus college players, and shows just how popular the facilities are, John says.

His comments are included in the Annual Report which has recently been circulated to members. It contains reports from the club's officials, team reports from coaches and managers, and lists the trophy winners, representative players, and a summary of team performances. In other highlights:

  • eight out of 10 MSP teams made the semis and finals of their grades

  • senior 1 co-coach Bevan Packer says that around four teams - 60 players in total - turned out for the senior 1s during the season, such was the injury level and player turnover in the senior club

  • the champion under-85 Blues scored 88 tries in racking up 641 points during the season (32 per game). They let in just 11 tries in 20 games, conceding just 93 points (4.7 per game)

  • colts coach Mason Lawrence says the Spillane tournament win over Auckland Marist colts set up their successful season. MSP snatched a 20-17 last -minute win over the side that has won the Auckland championship in four of the past five years

  • Toni Walters says the presidents' roared home with three wins from their last three games, starting with a 7-0 win over Ories where 'not one pass was spilt during the game and not one beer after it'.

The Annual Report, which includes the financial statements, will be discussed at the AGM this Thursday 24 November. General business will include an update on the proposal for an artificial turf at St Pat's College.

The AGM will be held upstairs at the gym, starting at 7pm. All club members and players are invited.
