Premiers bring home Father Cleary Shield

The Father Cleary Shield has proved to be an elusive piece of silverware over the past couple of seasons but the Premiers locked it away for 2014 by way of a 38-25 win over Hutt Old Boys Marist (video highlights below).

In a first half the never reached great heights, the one try scored came in the first 20 minutes off a line break from Fa'atonu Fili to hand Hurricane Cardiff Vaega an easy score. From there HOBM controlled long periods of possession but were unable to break the solid defence of MSP.

The game opened up midway through the second stanza after another try to Cardiff Vaega, this time dragging four Hutt defenders over the line with him. A number of smart penalty kicks saw MSP extend their lead to 21-6 with 20 minutes to play; but HOBM pounced on a couple of loose balls to get back in reach with a scoreline of 24-20.

Despite this, the win didnt really look in doubt and late tries to Ryan Setefano and Andrew Wells earned a handy bonus point.
