Horan-Millar Trophy safe in Hataitai for another year

In the derby day battle dubbed 'The Battle of Kilbirnie' Marist St Pats enjoyed strong tailwind and plenty of possession in the first stanza. The tireless forward pack again laid the groundwork for the backs to weave their magic with winger Sam Scown dotting down within the first 10 minutes.

After a number off missed opportunities, prop Jacob Taituave stormed through the Poneke backline to give the Red Machine a half time lead of 15-3.

The second half looked like it might continue in similar fashion after a full team movement resulted in Isaia Petelo stepping his way under the posts. But Poneke used the wind wisely and pinned the MSP squad in their own 22 for a number of phases which resulted in two tries of their own.

The injection of former international Henry Fa'afili into the Marist backline brought back the impetus in the final 10 minutes and Sefo Setefano finished another team effort to earn a bonus point in the final play of the game.

As a result, the coveted Horan-Millar Trophy will stay at home in Hataitai for a third straight year.
