Premiers give Wellington the axe, eye Swindale Shield

The Premiers enjoyed a bonus point victory at Hataitai Park over Wellington on a blustery afternoon.

With a number of injury enforced changes to the starting line up, the first half was a bit sluggish. Despite holding a wealth of possession and territory, the Marist side couldnt convert this into points until late in the half. A runaway try to Wellington's speedy right wing midway through the half had spectators scratching their heads as to how MSP could find themselves down 0-5. But plays soon started clicking and by halftime the team had bounced back to hold a 10-5 lead.

The second half was a different story as the forwards ensured the side enjoyed front foot ball. Spaces started opening and tries started flowing. A scoring flurry between the 50th and 60th minutes soon saw the game clinched for the Red Machine.

With competition favourites Tawa dropping their past two matches, our match up next week at Kilbirnie Park will see the winner take home the Swindale Shield.
