Close, but no cigar

A thirteen man Tawa team held out the Marist St Pats forward pack for eight long minutes early in the second half, that in the end was the winning and losing of the game. Earlier Isaia Petelo had gathered a deft kick from first five Aviata Silago for the Red Machine to take a 10-9 lead into the break. Tawa struck back straight after oranges to take the lead before a high tackle and continued cynical play left them with two in the bin.

Victor Vito came off the bench and despite his and the other forwards best efforts, they just couldn't cross the Tawa line to capitalize on the two-man advantage. Once back to their full contingent the clinical Tawa forward pack rumbled up field to set up former Norths standout James So'oialo to knock over a couple of late penalties to break Marist hearts.

Next week's final round robin match against Petone is a must win to have a chance of making the Jubilee Cup semis, although we will have to rely on Ories to fall to the in form OBU to make semis a reality.
