MSP recorded their biggest win in several years when they overran premier rugby newcomers Rimutaka 82-3 at Evans Bay on 14 April.
It was a tough afternoon for the Upper Hutt club who came up against an MSP team determined to atone for last week's lacklustre performance against OBU. After an even first 15 minutes which produced a 3-3 scoreline, MSP cut loose to rack up 13 unanswered tries.
Rimutaka were competitive in bursts and threatened MSP's line several times, but the fact they were kept tryless was another pleasing aspect of the home team's effort.
First-five Fa'atonu Fili collected 18 points including a try, winger Ryan Setefano scored a hat trick, and fullback Andrew Wells ran in two tries and landed two conversions in a player-of-the-day performance. MSP completely dominated the set pieces, with all the front rowers - props Arden David and Kas Lealamanua and hooker Ano Kapeli - scoring tries, and lock Dan Turner dominating the lineouts.
Despite the mounting scoreline, MSP kept their structure all afternoon. It was the confidence-boosting win the side needed as they head into four tough games including Norths, Poneke (on Anzac Day), HOB Marist and Ories over the next three weeks.
