Premiers stay unbeaten after three rounds

The 'Battle of Kilbirnie' is a game both Marist St Pats and Poneke look forward to each season. With the Horan-Millar Trophy on the line, each side wants bragging rights over their neighbours.

For the fifth straight year it was MSP that would take home the trophy, this time by way of a 23-10 victory at Kilbirnie Park.

Playing into a gale northerly in the first half, our side played intelligent rugby by keeping the ball tight and frustrating the opposition. After two penalties to Fa'atonu Fili it was Jeff To'omaga-Allen who finally broke through the defense to score the sole try of the first half.

Turning to enjoy that strong wind at their backs, the Red Machine looked set to turn it up a gear. Tries to Gabe Papuni and Valentine Meachen, in his 50th game for MSP, cemented the win but handling errors prevented our boys from scoring a bonus point try.

Our Premiers and Premier Reserves play Petone next weekend at Petone Rec, we look forward to your support!
