Poutawera Bell donated to club

On ANZAC Day as part of the clubs wider commemorations, John Poutawera donated the Poutawera Bell on the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.

The bell is in honour of the Poutawera family members who died in WW1 and to give thanks to the Marist St Pats family for all the club has given to the Poutawera family.

Dedication of the Artillery Bell by John Poutawera and family:

20743 Private James Poutawera – Killed in action 18 Dec 1917

James was the second cousin of John Poutawera and his connection to World War 1.

'It has been my intention for some time to recognise Marist St Pats' support of my two sons Reece & Duane who both played for the club. And for myself as a coach & manager over the last 17 yrs.

In recognition of this today I present this “Gong” not as a trophy to be won but as a bell to be for many years to come.

Tena koutou tena koutou tena tatou katou.'

- John Poutawera
