Success at the Spillane preseason tournament

Our senior squad can head into the working week knowing that their mission was accomplished at the annual Spillane Cup preseason tournament this weekend.

Following last season's absence from the tournament, the senior team played in the second division Ham Cumming Cup draw. Their first round match saw them pitted against a spirited Palmerston North Marist side (see video highlights below) who went 'tit for tat' all game as the lead changed numerous times; in the end it was a try by hooker Valentine Meachen on full time that secured the team's 37-35 win an a spot in the final against Hastings.

The final was a different story as our boys ran away to a 21-3 lead as the team's broke for oranges, but Hastings stuck showed their skills in the second spell and narrowed the final scoreline to 33-17. This win secured the first silverware of 2014 and promotion to the Spillane Cup draw next year.

In the other grades, the Colts and Presidents dropped the two games they played while our second senior team recorded a strong win over Wanganui 50-7 on day one. Follow these links for photo's from day one and day two.

The club also extends a huge congratulations to St Mary's Old Girls who took out the netball competition on Saturday!
