Project CRC – Clubrooms Review Committee – Update

In the March 2014 “Red Machine” newsletter the Board advised members that it had mandated a project team to conduct a strategic analysis of the future of MSP's Hataitai clubrooms facility.

The review covers the financial, commercial, historical, social, operational and environmental aspects that surround this great club. It includes the future of the existing clubrooms at Hataitai Park and considers the advantages and disadvantages of alternative options. The project is to identify and understand the current club room facilities and how they contribute to the family that is Marist St Pats.

The results of the analysis will be used to develop options and to analyse future risks and opportunities, and to make recommendations to MSP members.

In a recent meeting with the Management Board, the project team provided an update on the reports progress. The Board was appreciative of the work that has occurred and has asked the project team to continue to the next stage of completing a report that can be used as a future blueprint.

The project team has noted that:
  • Club rugby at all levels is in transition! Societal attitudes are making change necessary if MSP is to remain the “pro active” and successful club that we are all proud of.
  • Strong relationships have been developed with the community and “kindred clubs” when considering what the 21st century will look like.
  • The introduction of artificial turf facilities throughout Wellington will impact on the scheduling of club competitions.
  • As life member Dan Kelly noted in his “The state of Club Rugby” the number of teams is declining.
  • The future may also see competition matches played on Friday nights and Sundays!
