Clubrooms review update

Earlier in the season, Chairman Rob Evans, advised members of the formation of a committee with the mandate to develop and recommend a strategy for the future of the non-rugby aspects of Marist St Pats.

This specifically refers to the social amenities of the club including the future of the existing Clubrooms, and options as they may arise during the term of this project. The plan is to have structured recommendations to the Board by October 2014.

The committee members are Andrew Robinson, Mick Robbers, John Knox, John Holden, J.P. Tocker, and Kevin Parker (Project Leader). David McGuinness is also involved in an advisory role. They report to the Board.

The group's goals include:

  • Evaluation of the current and economic viability of the existing Clubrooms.
  • Player/member attitudes, opinions and commitment. All members will have a chance to respond to a questionnaire which is currently being developed.
  • Understanding the current and planned roading changes in the Eastern Suburbs.
  • The impact of game scheduling taking into account the use of the artificial turf on non Saturday program'.
  • Assess the potential to join/amalgamate with like minded sports bodies, especially Easts Cricket Club, Marist AFC, St Patrick's College and SMOG netball

The group have met with the Wellington City Council Sports and Recreation group and is scheduled to meet with their Sports and Leisure consultant. There will also be a separate meeting with WCC to discuss options/processes with MSP's current Clubrooms and how they may be affected with roading changes and developments at Hataitai Park, e.g. Relocation of Badminton Hall. The committee is also in discussions with Easts Cricket Club and Marist AFC (as their clubrooms may be removed when the widening at the northern/western end of Kilbirnie Park takes place). St Patrick's College will be an important player in these discussions.

We will keep you informed through this newsletter, however feel free to contact anyone on the committee with comments and suggestions by email to msprugby@xtra.co.nz.
