John Gordon – Rest In Peace good and faithful servant

It is with a heavy heart that the Marist St Pats family acknowledges the death of Mr. John Gordon.

John was a Life Member of the Marist St Pats RFC. His passionate interest in the Club began after he completed his College years, at St Patrick’s College Silverstream, and became a squad member of the St Patrick’s College (Old Boys) RFC that won the 1949 Jubilee Cup.

John was the consummate Club man. Following his playing career he passionately took on many of the administrative roles involved with Marist St Pats. John was President, Chairman of the Management Board, Committee member, Club Captain, Clubrooms Manager, “Old Timers” day organizer, Club Mass organizer.

But perhaps most of all John was the warm “greeter” at the Clubrooms entrance - a smiling and welcoming face to Club members and visitors to Marist St Pats that made a point.

Club rugby throughout Wellington will not be the same without the dulcet tones of John Gordon urging his team on with “C’mon Red!”

To John’s wife, Anne, and his family the Marist St Pats family extends its deepest sympathy.

John's Rosary will be held at 7.00pm on Thursday at St Teresa's in Karori. His Funeral is at 1.00pm on Friday, also at St Teresa's.

All are welcome back to the MSP Clubrooms following his funeral.
