Tino Fidow Memorial Cup comes home

The MSP 'Classics' presidents grade team have brought home the Tino Fidow Memorial Cup for the first time, emphatically beating Petone 62-26 on 27 April.

Tino Fidow was a stalwart of MSP. He managed the club's Premier side and played prop for the presidents - where he scored his first try ever after playing for 30 odd years! The cup, which was donated in memory of Tino by his nephew Henry Fidow and Paul 'Budgie' Jacobsen, was first played for between the MSP Classics and Petone in 2009. It is contested between MSP and Petone as Tino had a brother Andrew who was a Petone stalwart - this caused a lot of competition about the greatness of their respective clubs.

Petone won the cup in 2009, 2010 and 2012. In 2011 Petone defaulted annual match, but as our team didn’t want to win the cup by default, it was decided that 2011 would be a 'non played' year. The 'Classics' are very proud to hold this special piece of silverware for the first time.
