Jeff Toomaga-Allen named 2012 NZ Marist Player of the Year

Hurricanes and premier prop Jeff Toomaga-Allen has topped off a stellar season by being named the New Zealand Marist Player of the Year for 2012.

Newly-wed Jeff, who featured in a recent DomPost profile, was nominated by MSP for the award which was announced at the NZ Marist AGM on 23 February. His nomination stated:

'In his first season with the Hurricanes, Jeff played a pivotal role in ensuring the forward pack never gave an inch in their Super Rugby campaign. Jeff's powerful scrummaging and outstanding mobility around the field secured his position as one of the top front-rowers in the country. It was clear that Jeff's performance was a key factor in the Hurricanes surprising success.

'However, Jeff's fantastic form not only benefited the Hurricanes but also Marist St Pats, with him having a Man of the Match performance in MSP's Jubilee Cup win. Jeff's fantastic year culminated in him being recognised by the Wellington Rugby Football Union as the Player of the Year for his performances in the Wellington Lions.'

The club extends its congratulations to Jeff who joins the illustrious company of former winners including All Blacks Hosea Gear, Doug Howlett and Marty Holah.
