Work on artificial turf to start in December

The truck and diggers will roll up to the field behind St Pat's College soon after 13 December and start tearing off the ground's top 30cm to make way for a new artificial turf.

In an exciting development for the college and the club, the tenders have been let for the new state-of-the-art facility which is expected to be completed by the end of April 2013.

The 100m x 65m field will run parallel to the college's tennis courts between the MSP gym and Cobham Drive. Two tennis courts will be removed to make way for the turf plus a warm-up area.

The project is expected to cost $1.44-$1.55 million, with the council contributing up to $800,000 and the college and MSP covering the rest. The cost has been underwritten by the college's board of proprietors.

A major fund-raising challenge lies ahead for the club, but the turf will give the college and MSP's junior and senior players access to superb training and playing facilities.
