Victor back in black for World Cup

Recalled No8 Victor Vito returned the All Black selectors' faith with a top performance in the Tri-Nations decider against Australia on 27 August. His effort confirmed what a lot of MSP supporters have known since he first joined the club as an 18-year-old in 2005.

Victor was first named in the All Blacks in May last year, the day after he had played for MSP in a 48-0 win over Tawa (photo left). He is the club's seventh All Black and the first since John Schuster in 1987-89.

Victor's first rep jersey was in the Wellington under-13s, and he went on to join MSP after leaving Scots College. By then he had already captained the NZ under-19s. He went quickly into the premier team and has made 43 appearances for the top side.

He played in the team that lost the Jubilee Cup final against HOB Marist in 2007, but next year captained the team that won the first-round Swindale Shield (photo below). That team went on to win the Jubilee Cup and Victor was named the club's 2008 Sportsman of the Year.

Despite a heavy workload for the Hurricanes and Wellington Lions, Victor has always played for the club whenever possible. He is often at premier matches, the gym and clubrooms supporting Marist St Pats and his teammates.

His World Cup call-up came after top performances for the Hurricanes and the Wellington Lions. The club wishes Victor and the All Blacks every success in their World Cup campaign.
