Friday was a celebration of Women's rugby with a strong crowd gathering at Rugby League Park for the Tia Paasi Memorial Final.
The fairytale finish to the Marist St Pats' best season ever in the Women's grade wasn't to be. The experience of the Northern United side was evident from the kick off as they quickly dispelled any nerves and settled into their work. Five first half tries to the side from Porirua was too much to overcome.
Our team never rolled over and the injection of Ana Afuie and Monica Tagoai off the bench sparked some strong passages of play in the second half but the damage had been done. Final score 58-10 to Norths.
We congratulate Norths on an outstanding performance and deserved victory.
While the disappointment amongst our team was evident and natural, this team has a huge amount to be proud of. The season's achievements included their first victories over Norths and Oriental-Rongotai; taking the Challenge Cup for the first time and holding it over the summer; top qualification in the second round; and a number of players earning their blazers.
The team congregated at the clubrooms where they were acknowledged by the club. We can't wait to see how they build on this season in 2023.
