Internationals win big at prizegiving

It was an 'international affair' with the Internationals scooping up a number of team and individual awards at our annual Prizegiving dinner.

On the back of an unbeaten season, the side were awarded the Father Geoff Broad Memorial Trophy for Team of the Year, along with the William Te Oka Shield for the team scoring the most championship points.

Internationals back Sam Baylis took home the Alan McLean Memorial Cup for the Most Meritorious Senior 2 player and the Mons. Heavy Cup for the player scoring the most tries. Internationals and club stalwart Nathan Simpson was awarded the Special Merit Award.

In other club awards, Andrew Wells was named Sportsman of the Year and awarded the Paul Donoghue Trophy after an outstanding season that saw him successfully move into the first five position. Tovio Apolo was awarded the coveted Mick Horan Memorial Trophy.

For the administrators; Mike Renouf was named Most Outstanding Club Member and awarded the W.M. O'Connor Memorial Trophy - the highest honour for a non-playing club member. Junior Convenor Bevan Brocklehurst was named Most Outstanding Administrator; Premier Women's Coach and Premier Men's player Ryan Setefano was awarded the John Rennie Memorial Cup for the Most Outstanding Contribution by Non-Office Bearing Club Member.

John Poutawera announced the winner of the inaugural Poutawera Whanau Trophy which he has donated to recognise the outstanding contribution of a club member of Maori descent; this was awarded to Premier halfback Logan Love.

Premier Women's standout Octavia Nanai-Iafeta was awarded the Ah Kuoi Family Cup for contributions to the club's Pasifika community.
