With co-captain James Tuiatua playing his 100th Premier game, the Red Machine roared into life on Old Timers Day with a 48-38 win over Old Boys-University.
After a first half arm wrestle that saw the sides tied at 19-19, MSP put the foot down in the next 30 minutes to lead by 43-19. A chaotic final 10 minutes saw OBU storm back into the game and close the gap to 43-38 before a try to Ryan Setefano on full time put the game to bed.
Earlier on Evans Bay Park, our Premier 2 side got back in the winners column with a gutsy 25-22 win over OBU. Our Premier Women put in a brave performance against Oriental-Rongotai, keeping the game very close until the final 10 minutes, final score 24-37. Stalwart Tina Hamlin played her 50th game, coming off the bench in the second half.
The Presidents retained the Presidents Cup with a 43-34 win over Wellington; our Netball team had a thrilling one-point win over Vic Uni by 28-27.
The Colts had a tough second half against OBU and ultimately lost 14-60; the Under 85s also had a big loss 12-54 to Johnsonville. The Internationals won by default.
